Grading a Discussion Leader

As there is often a lot of stress among students regarding leading the discussion here is the rubric that I will be using to evaluate you during the times when you are leading discussion:

* Articulates author's argument correctly and completely
* Identifies nuances of author's argument
* Poses thoughtful, open-ended questions or creative exercises to the class
* Guides discussion to important points
* Maintains control of the classroom

You are welcome to grade me too if you'd like.

Here are some additional thoughts about how to do a good job when leading a discussion:

Grade Calibration:

My expectation is that someone who does the work assigned well would receive a B+ . I occasionally give an A+ and I often find myself giving students C's, D's and F's. Please consider this now if you have particular requirements regarding grade point averages and consider taking an easier course.
