Assignment #1: HCI in the wild

Part A: Headshot

1. Find a publicly accessible security camera/ web-cam.

Here's an example: http://www.ics.uci.edu/about/brenhall/brenhall_webcam.php

2. Get a screen capture of your face on this camera. Turn in your photo (in JPG format) .

3. Turn in the URL of the web-site from which you captured your image.

These photos will be used to identify you in class, so make sure the images will work for that purpose.

1 extra-credit point will be given to the 3 most interesting cameras / capture techniques used.

The photos and URL's should be emailed to Harmony.

Part B: Reflect

Write a 1-2 page reflection of the experience, which includes:

Discuss all the computational resources that you interacted with in the process of capturing this image.

Discuss the implications of the presence of the camera in the site where it was situated. Why do you suppose it was put there? Is it being used for that purpose? Is it being used for a different purpose?

Discuss a benefit of the camera and a harm of the camera.

How much work would need to be done to actually achieve the benefits and harms that you describe.

The reflections should be turned in on paper to Silvia.
