CompSci 143A/CSE 104 Homework Preparation and Submission Instructions - Spring, 2013 (Dillencourt)
Preparation Instructions:
- Each homework assignment should be submitted as a single PDF file.
- The name of your file should be:
HW-n-name-stn.pdf, where
- HW is the two-letter sequence "HW"
- n is the number of the homework assignment you are submitting
- name is your name as officially registered for the course,
written as Lastname,FirstnameOthernames with no intervening spaces.
So for your example, if your name were Peter The Magic Anteater,
the name portion would be Anteater,PeterTheMagic.
- stn is your student number.
So for example, if you are Peter The Magic Anteater
with student number 01234567 submitting homework assignment 3,
the name of your file would be HW-3-Anteater,PeterTheMagic-01234567.pdf.
- At the top of the first page,
place your name, student id, and homework number.
- Your solutions should appear in the same order that the problems
are listed in the assignment.
The start of each solution to should be clearly labeled with the
chapter number and problem number of the problem you are solving.
(Use 3-2 to indicate problem 2 of chapter 3.)
There should be a clear demarcation (e.g., a multiple line skip)
between the end of one solution and the start of the next.
- Put some care into the writing.
If the Reader cannot understand your answer after making a reasonable effort,
you will receive a low score (possibly zero) on the problem.
Here reasonable means reasonable, not superhuman or requiring telepathic skills.
An ambiguous or vague answer that could have been interpreted as a correct
answer if some unstated assumptions had been stated or some unspecified details
had been specified is not the same as a correct answer.
Submission Instructions: (Note: if you cannot access your dropbox,
follow the special instructions below.
This should only happen if you are not yet enrolled in the course or possibly
if you were added after the dropboxes were created.)
.)
- Prepare a PDF file as described above under Preparation Instructions.
- Submit the file to the EEE DropBox System, placing it in the
AssignmentSubmission folder of the appropriate DropBox (i.e.,
Dropbox "HW - 1" for homework number 1,
Dropbox "HW - 2" for homework number 2, etc.)
- Please only submit a file once.
- You can find a short help file about submitting assignments using the
DropBox system
here.
Notes on the homework submission process:
- If you want to try out the process without waiting until you have completed
the first homework, there is a "Practice Dropbox." Anything submitted there
will be discarded.
-
Submission deadlines for the homework are firm.
Late homework will be accepted only at the discretion of the Reader,
and even if it is accepted a significant point penalty for late
submission may be imposed.
- If you have any doubts about how the submission process works,
submit a test file using the "Practice Dropbox."
- If you have questions about the submission process, send email to the
questions list.
But don't wait until the last minute.
If you wait until the last minute to send a question and do not
get a response before the deadline, that will
not be considered an acceptable reason for submitting your homework late.
Special instructions for those without dropboxes. Use these instructions
only if you cannot access your dropbox.
- Prepare a PDF file as described above under Preparation Instructions.
Use the name given there.
- Send the PDF file, as an email attachment, directly to the Reader, Fausto Artico, at the email
address given here.
Your subject line should be the "CompSci 143A" followed by the file name.
So for example, if you are Peter The Magic Anteater
with student number 01234567 submitting homework assignment 3,
the name of your file would be
HW-3-Anteater,PeterTheMagic-01234567.pdf
and your subject line would be
CompSci 143A: HW-3-Anteater,PeterTheMagic-01234567.pdf.
The body of your email can be empty.
- Please only submit a file once.
