New International Students

1. Watch the First Year Online Orientation Video, which reviews UCI and ICS academic policies and degree requirements.
2. Watch the “How to Navigate Schedule of Classes” and “How to Navigate WebReg” videos to understand how to register for courses
3. Complete Canvas Modules. You will receive an email when modules are available. We recommend you complete all modules before school starts.

1. Submit all high school and college transcripts to UCI Admissions. Deadline: July 1
2. Submit all AP/IB/A-Levels other exam scores to UCI Admissions. Deadline: July 15
3. 2025 A-levels (if applicable). Deadline: September 1

An admissions hold may prevent you from attending orientation or registering for courses. Visit the Message Center at your UCI Applicant Portal homepage to see messages about missing documents or to communicate with your Admissions Counselor.

Calculus Placement Required for the following majors: Business Information Management, Computer Science and Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, ICS-Undeclared, and Software Engineering

• Students can be placed by AP/IB scores or SAT/ACT scores
• If you do not have a placement based on scores mentioned above, please take a Placement Exam through the UCI Testing Center, preferably before your summer orientation.

All International Students should be enrolling in Academic English or Writing in their first quarter. Submit the Writing Placement Portfolio to determine which course you should be enrolled in. Students placed in Academic English will be sent invitation to complete an Academic English Placement Exam (AEPE) if needed.

Determine if you need to take the following ICS Credit by Exams (see under “Frequently Asked Questions”). These exams are optional and only needed if you have prior knowledge in these areas: ICS 31 (Python) and ICS 45J (Java).

If so, take this exam at least 1 week before your orientation date. Available Credit By Exam dates can be found on the  ICS Credit By Exam page.

Your course registration window will open on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at 9am PDT. You will register for courses remotely through Webreg. Please note that there is an “advising hold” on your record. This is normal and will be removed before your enrollment window opens.

A Recommended Schedule for your major will be emailed to your UCI Email prior to your course registration date. Please make sure to submit test scores and transcripts early on so that your recommended schedule can be as accurate as possible. All students should be enrolling 12-14 units. It is not recommended that you enroll in more units during your first quarter.

There will be an optional zoom drop in session on July 16th from 9-11am PDT with academic advisors if you have any questions about enrollment. You can log in to zoom at any time during that designated day and time for help with registering in courses. A link will be sent to you a few days prior to July 16th.
