Incoming 1st Year International Students

If you are an International 1st year student, you may choose to attend an in-person orientation instead of following the instructions on this page for registering on your own. If you would like to attend orientation in-person, follow the instructions for 1st year Domestic Students.

Registration windows for 1st Year International students open on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 @ 9:00am PDT.

Required Pre-Regsitration Tasks

Submit all high school and college transcripts to UCI Admissions. Deadline: July 1
Submit all AP/IB/A-Levels other exam scores to UCI Admissions. Deadline: July 15
2025 A-levels (if applicable). Deadline: September 1

An admissions hold may prevent you from attending orientation or registering for courses. Visit the Message Center at your UCI Applicant Portal homepage to see messages about missing documents or to communicate with your Admissions Counselor.

Calculus Placement Required for the following majors: Business Information Management, Computer Science and Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, ICS-Undeclared, and Software Engineering

Students can be placed by AP/IB scores or SAT/ACT scores
If you do not have a placement based on scores mentioned above, please take a Placement Exam through the UCI Testing Center, preferably before your summer orientation.

Complete Canvas Modules. You will receive an email when modules are available. We recommend you complete all modules before school starts.

Important Course Registration Day Information

Recommended Schedule: A recommended schedule for your major will be emailed to your UCI Email prior to course registration.

Advising Hold: There is an advising hold on your record. This is normal and will be removed before your enrollment window opens.

When to Register: You will register remotely through WebReg for your courses starting at 9:00AM PDT on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

Drop-in For Questions: There will be an optional zoom drop in session on July 15, 2026 from 9:00AM-11:00AM PDT if you have any questions about enrollment. A link will be emailed a few days beforehand. If you cannot attend the drop-ins, you can ask your questions via email.

Notes on Course Selection:

All students should be enrolling in 12-14 units. It is not recommended that you enroll in more units than the recommended amount during your first quarter.
You can also refer to the Catalogue for more information on major requirements.
The ICS Course Listing page shows which courses will be offered in which quarters in the upcoming academic year. This page is updated yearly around mid-Spring Quarter.

Attend the International Student Parent Orientation (ISPOP) on September 16-17 2026.

All international students should register for this in person orientation unless they are already registered for SPOP in the summer. Information can be found at the Orientation Website. Course registration will not take place at this orientation.

GE VI: Language other than English can be completed with a C average or higher, of formal schooling at the 6th grade level or above where language of instruction was NOT English. You can also clear this requirement through the Language Exemption Test with the UCI Testing Center.

GE VIII: International / Global Issues can be completed with a C average or higher, of one year of formal schooling at the 8th grade level or higher where language of instruction was NOT English.
Email ucounsel@uci.edu or fill out a degreeworks update form to have this applied to your Degreeworks starting in Winter Quarter of your 1st year if you do not already see it applied. Keep in mind we will either need to see your middle or high school transcript that was submitted to UCI Admissions.
