Steps for adding another major

  1. REVIEW the degree requirements for the major you want to add.
  2. MEET with a Peer Academic Advisor or academic counselor to discuss how to most efficiently meet the additional degree requirements.
  3. The process to add an ICS major as a double major is the same as switching majors into an ICS major. The process and requirements are explained in the ICS Change of Major page under “Switching into or within ICS”.

Please note:

  • Students who wish to complete a double major are not restricted by the campus maximum unit cap.
  • An ICS double major is not guaranteed for approval even if the change of major requirements are met. We highly encourage contacting an ICS advisor prior to submission.
  • Transfer students are encouraged to accept admission to a computing major they are directly admitted into (instead of pursuing a double major) and make efficient progress to degree.
  • If you want to double major in two different Schools, ensure you double check with a counselor from both Schools to determine any potential restrictions and additional major requirements. Keep in mind that some majors require that you graduate within four years regardless of single or double majors.

Restrictions on combinations of ICS majors

The new policy will apply to all applications submitted after Summer 2026.

For applications submitted during 2025-26 academic year, the policy that applies depends on when the student started at UCI.
