Sharad Mehrotra Receives IEEE TCDE Impact and IFIP WG 11.3 Awards

Sharad Mehrotra, Distinguished Professor of Computer Science at UC Irvine Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences (ICS), has received two awards for his contributions to the field of data engineering: the IEEE TCDE Impact Award and the IFIP WG 11.3 Award.

The IEEE TCDE Impact Award (formerly the IEEE TCDE CSEE – Computer Science, Engineering, and Education – Impact Award) is a flagship award of the IEEE Computer Society’s Technical Committee on Data Engineering (TCDE). The annual award recognizes database researchers whose research has contributed to expanding the data engineering field through interdisciplinary, practice or expansion ways. The intention is to encourage innovative, long-term contributions to the field of data engineering. The award was presented at the IEEE International Conference on Data Engineering (ICDE), held in Montreal, Canada, this year. Mehrotra was recognized for his “foundational contributions to cloud data management and multimedia indexing and information retrieval.”

The IFIP WG 11.3 Outstanding Research Award is granted by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) Working Group 11.3, the community responsible for the annual Data and Applications Security and Privacy DBSec conference, to be held in Arlington, Virginia, this year. The award honors outstanding research contributions to the field of data and applications security and privacy that have had lasting impact in furthering or advancing the theory or development of secure and private data applications.
