Gene Tsudik Receives 2025 Humboldt Research Award

Gene Tsudik, UC Irvine Distinguished Professor of Computer Science and ICS alumnus, has been named a recipient of the 2025 Humboldt Research Award, also known as the Humboldt Award. The award is conferred annually to about 100 internationally distinguished researchers world-wide, across all disciplines, in recognition of their lifetime academic record.
The Humboldt Award is granted by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany, which sponsors “distinguished international scientists and scholars irrespectively of their academic discipline or nationality and maintains an international network of academic cooperation and trust.” The award includes a cash prize of 80,000 euros, as well as an invitation to work on research projects of the awardees’ choice in collaboration with a colleague in Germany.
Prof. Tsudik was recognized for his expertise in security, privacy, and applied cryptography.
Prof. Tsudik was nominated by Professor Ahmad-Reza Sadeghi, of Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany (TUD). The planned collaboration will involve research in security and privacy of IoT and Embedded Systems as well as satellite communications.
Prof. Tsudik commented: “I very much look forward to a series of productive visits to TUD and I expect that our joint efforts will yield some innovative and impactful research results.”
