» Chen Li » Sharad Mehrotra » Richard Taylor » Gene Tsudik The World Wide Web has become the "killer" application for the Internet infrastructure that has been around for over 30 years.
The rapid adoption and application of the Web, and the search at a maddening pace for new ways to exploit the Internet, are driving an equally rapid development of the software and hardware technology infrastructure.
The software technology infrastructure includes:
» Internet/Web programming languages and tools
» Web application servers
» Electronic and communications protocols
» Multimedia data compression and routing techniques
» E-commerce and e-medicine software
» Customized information delivery
» Distributed transactions and distance learning
» Web log analysis of visitor access patternsThe hardware technology includes mobile devices, thin clients or Internet appliances, multimedia transmission devices, switches and routers.
Computer science professor Sharad Mehrotra and UCSD collaborator Ramesh Rao, are researching how first responders, as well as key decision makers, share information and communicate during a crisis or disaster.
